A lot of people are saying really good things about the site,
but are they true?

I decided to write up an honest review of the site, covering
what I believe to be its strengths and its weaknesses, just
to clear it up once and for all...

A catchy new viral marketing tool, capable of broadcasting
messages directly to people's desktops. Easy to use, and
caters primarily to those who have something they want to
promote and are looking for a better way to do it.

(Read on for why I didn't give it 5 stars)

1. Initial Impressions
----------------------

When I was first introduced to DesktopLightning.com, I wasn't
quite sure exactly what to think. Everyone was saying it was
going to be more powerful than e-mail marketing, but this
seemed like too bold of a claim.

I signed up anyway, since I usually give things a chance --
that's how I have found the several sites I do really trust
and rely on.

The signup process did take about 60 seconds, as advertised,
and their software program downloaded and installed in about
30 seconds. No long, tedious install processes here. If you
own downloadable software, you might want to take a look at
how quick their install process is.

Right after installing the software, it ran immediately, and
I was quickly presented with a tool to invite my friends.

Within one-click's access was my Inbox, the tool to send
broadcasts, a statistics page, and my favorite, the "Build
Your Network" page.

I'll get more into why that's my favorite page later.

2. Viral Growth
---------------

This is where the site really shines, in my opinion. The
purpose of a viral marketing site is that you should be able
to invite just a few people, and then it will start growing
on its own.

Many sites claim to work like this, but few actually work as
advertised.

I'm not sure if it's because of their unique concept or the
slick implementation, but this site is REALLY viral. Here's
some of the testimonials they got, which I think sum it up
pretty well:

"I haven't ever seen a system build a downline so
fast. I joined your program just to try something
new. Four days later I had a downline of 43 people.
This is unbelievable."

the general consesus is that most people who do get those
initial few people in are experiencing results similar to
these.

I give DesktopLightning.com an A+ for spreading like wildfire.

3. Direct-To-Desktop Broadcasts
-------------------------------

So, once you have the people in your network from the direct
invitations and the viral growth, then it really gets cool.
Now is when you get to broadcast whatever message you want
directly to their desktops.

Gone are the days of sending out emails and wondering if
they were received due to spam filters and crowded inboxes.

If you upgrade to their Platinum membership, then you can even
get exact statistics on the percentage of your broadcasts that
were opened, but the Platinum membership is not the subject
of this review.

Here's how it works -- the DesktopLightning.com software is
what allows the direct-to-desktop communication to be
received. Since everyone in your network will have the
DesktopLightning.com application installed, just as you do,
this is what allows such smooth and instant communication
to occur.

Within one hour of your sending the message, everyone in your
network who is online will receive a notification on their
desktop that they can click to read your message.

Anyone who isn't online at the time will receive it when they
log on next.

I'm sure you can see why this type of communication has been
more successful than email as of late, so I won't get into
it too much here. The basic point though is that there's no
way your message can be lost, overlooked, or blocked by any
filters.

If you upgrade to their Platinum service you can do things
like embed video and sound right into the broadcast, but
again, I'll save the Platinum service for another review.

4. Building Your Network
------------------------

Most sites out there nowadays don't really help you build a
network of people below you. They just throw you a URL and
tell you to run with it.

While this works for most advanced people, it's not something
that's very easy for people who are just starting out.

DesktopLightning.com went really far this time to make sure
that everyone has a way to bring people into their network,
regardless of skill level.

When you click on the "Build Your Network" link from within
their application, you'll be presented with a surprising
number of tools to help you build your downline.

Everything from banners, to popups, to text ads, to invitation
tools, to emails to send out, etc.

Then, they continue to offer something which I haven't seen on
any Internet Marketing site yet -- they have a "Starting From
Scratch" section, designed specifically for people who have
no list and no website with traffic.

If you're in that position, then you'll love this section,
since they detail specific strategies you can use to promote
DesktopLightning.com (or anything for that matter), even if
you don't have anything to start with.

Quite a valuable resource.

5. Not For Everyone
-------------------

With all that said, the only downside to DesktopLightning.com
is that it's not for everyone.

Of course, some might see that as an upside, since it's a more
targetted opportunity.

Basically, the bottom line is that DesktopLightning.com is a
promotional tool. You need to have something you want to
promote or advertise before you can really make use of the
site.

This is all due to the fact that the basic concept is that
you build a viral network of people, and then broadcast
something to it.

But, this "something" is whatever you want, so you must
already have something you'd want to send to a lot of people.

If you don't have something yet, you could start building your
network first, and then once you get something to promote
you'll be ready to launch it immediately.

If you do have something to promote, that's when the site
really shines.

6. Conclusion
-------------

I would recommend this site to anyone who has something to
promote or advertise.

It definitely works, and your downline will grow extremely
fast if you put some energy into getting it started.

The direct-to-desktop broadcasts are a killer app in today's
online climate, where emails barely even get through anymore.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it has
nothing to offer for people who don't have anything to
promote or advertise yet.

If you want to advertise or promote something to a lot of
people in a unique and poweful way, then this site is for
you.

set up and try, if you have something you want to promote you
might as well go check it out.

Traffic Exchanges is great to promote your website, service or anything else.

In this article I will give you an easy guide on where to find good Traffic Exchanges (from now on called TE's) and what you can do to maximise your traffic by building a great network of "employees" to click for you. We'll also go quickly through how to use TE's in the easiest and most productive way. And best of all....It's FREE!

1. Finding Good TE's.

A program that constantly has an updated list of the best TE's is TrafficHoopla . They get updated reports every week on Top Ranked Traffic Exchanges through their partition TestHoopla . These lists costs money for you to buy, but through TrafficHoopla you'll always be updated for free.

TrafficHoopla does not only have an updated list of the Top Ranked Hit Exchanges, but also let you easily keep track of the TE's you have signed up for. Even all the referral links to your TE's will be integrated into TrafficHoopla and that takes us to the next section...

2. Building a Network of "Employed" Clickers.

If you haven't already signed up for TrafficHoopla , you should do it now. Just click here now and follow the instructions to join them for free. Come back to this site when you have joined...

Welcome back.

Log in to your members area on TrafficHoopla and keep it open in another window. Now click to the TH Websites under Account Home on the left side. Here you have all the TrafficHoopla referral sites for you to promote. This is the first step in building your network of "clickers".

I'll explain further down where to promote TrafficHoopla , but first which of the TH Websites should you use? Which one catches most prospects? Well, why not use them all in a rotation to reach a wider array of people. You can get a free rotator at FreeRotator.com , this is also the rotator recommended by TrafficHoopla .

When you have signed up for FreeRotator.com log in Click on "Rotators" and follow the instructions on the bottom of the screen to add all the TH Websites to one rotator.

Congratulations! Now you have only one link to promote all your TrafficHoopla referral sits. This is the only time you needed to write all these URL's.

Next go back to your TrafficHoopla Account Home and click on the Hit Exchanges link under Join Programs. Here you have a list of the Top 50 TE's and I recommend you join at least 20 of them. The top five are the best of the best and the rest are very good and are in alphabetical order.

The top five are of course a must have. I can recommend a few I have good experience using but all of them are good TE's.

(NOTE: The number/username will not be registered to TrafficHoopla until you push the "Update" button on the bottom of the page).

Come back here when you have joined the TE's that you want, try to at least join the 20 I have mentioned...

I guess you have signed up for the TE's then. Now it's time to surf and earn credits to build up your TraffickHoopla downline.

The reason for this, if you haven't already guessed, is as people join TrafficHoopla under you they will have your referral links in their own account. So when they join the TE programs from their account they will become your referral in the other programs as well.

And here comes the beauty of it! When those people then go surfing, you will earn credits to your TE's. And more credits mean more traffic.

Now let's go to the next section to find out how to surf the easy and most productive way...

3. Surfing TE's Made Easy.

In your account at TrafficHoopla it's recommended a great tabbed browser. You can find it under Web Browser in your member area or just go to http://www.maxthon.com. The tabbed interface keeps it from taking up space on you taskbar.

You can read more about the browser options in you account home or at the browser web site.

You should now go to your FreeRotator.com account and add some links to your existing web site. It is recommended by TraffcHoopla (under the "Getting Started" Section) that about 75% of the sites in your rotator are their sites. Read the "Getting Started" section to get more useful tips about TE's.

I recommend you surf all the TE's 1-3 hours every day. This can bring you up to 10-thousand or more daily hits within the first year.

That's it! The rest is up to you.

No matter what you are promoting online, in order to earn the bucks, ya gotta get website traffic, and lots of it...

Whether you are promoting products, services or affiliate programs, more website traffic means more income.

This article will share with you the best free and cheap ways I've learned to get website traffic to my website.

Newbie Note: If you're new at e-commerce, before concentrating your efforts of getting site traffic, take the time to make sure "what" you will be promoting will actually sell. If you plan to market your own products or services, you'll need to identify a large group of potential buyers first. If you plan to promote an existing product, service or opportunity get some real income figures from others already doing it. (Like this.) Once you've accomplished this, you'll have some solid figures to shoot for and you can start pouring on the traffic.

Here's what really works for growing lots of site traffic...


1. Give away value with no strings attached

Giving something of value away for free is a great way to attract website visitors. Thanks to the web, distributing freebies is in itself, free. You don't have to spend a dime to pass out freebies left and right. All you need are a few quality freebies.


2. Go "viral" with your freebies

Viral strategies allow you to multiply your marketing efforts without actually doing more work. Take that example above. You offer a great freebie like an ebook or tutorial. Now, let others give it away for free at their site too, as an incentive, bonus or just for the heck of it. Why not? It adds value to their offering and it creates more visitors to your site as your freebie spreads.


3. Position your site in the search engines

While you absolutely must add your website URL to all the major engines, search engine promotion does not stop there. You need to improve your raking so that your website is not lost among the millions of sites on the web. Unfortunately, many webmasters spend FAR too much time on their search engine ranking. The best strategy in my experience is to optimize all your pages for good ranking, concentrate on getting links, then let the rest take care of itself.


4. Use "pay for rank" search engines

Every month I get a few thousands visitors from goto.com, the web's leading pay for rank search engine. These visitors cost me an average of less than a dime each. There are more and more "pay for rank" engines cropping up on the web and they offer a great way to get targeted traffic cheap. I suggest you try a few.

5. Advertise in email newsletters

Still a bargain. Have you noticed the larger companies jumping on the ezine advertising bandwagon? They know the value of a dollar. For a few thousand bucks they can take out a half-page ad in ONE magazine offline. For the same price they can advertise in multiple ezines and reach literally hundreds of thousands of prospects, faster and cheaper.


6. Publish your own ezine!

I've been publishing my own e-newsletter, the BizWeb eGazette since August of 1996. Looking back, starting my own opt-in list may have been my wisest decision to date. My e-newsletter brings customers back to my site on a regular basis. Every webmaster should offer a way for surfers to sign up for a regular email notice. It doesn't have to be an ezine, you can send specials, freebies or even site updates notices. The key is to keep in touch with the people you manage to get to your site. It's hard work getting traffic, don't let them leave without offering to stay in touch!


7. "Rent" Opt-in email lists

Here's a promotion method that works. It can be a bit more costly than the other methods mentioned here, but it does pull in lots of website traffic. Just visit www.postmasterdirect.com -- arguably the net's most prominent opt-in list services provider, and click on "read some case studies". There you'll see an unsolicited testimonial from yours truly. Although I don't spend money on opt-in list rental too often (I'm cheap!) I do use opt-in services when I need a quick boost in sales.


8. Offer an affiliate program

If the product or service you are promoting is your own, adding an affiliate program to your site is a great "pay for performance only" method of increasing website traffic and in turn sales. It's no wonder that thousands of websites now offer to "share the profits" with their customers.


9. Write Articles

Anyone who reads my stuff regularly knows I rave about this promotion method. The fact is, it is responsible for a large part of my traffic. It still surprises me how many people don't try this. All it takes is a few hours each week or month to write about what you know and then have it looked over by someone with editing skills. Then, you tack on a small footer with your URL and fire it off to a list of editors who publish material related to what you're marketing. You then post the articles at your own site with re-publishing permission for other webmasters.

10. Create and promote joint ventures

Up until last year I had overlooked joint venture marketing almost completely. What a mistake. Joint ventures are a powerful way to get traffic and additional income online. One particular joint venture I'm involved with is solely for generating for new ezine subscribers. The JV "contest" includes five other ezine publishers like myself and generate over a hundred new subscribers every single week! Your own JV possibilities are limited only by your imagination. If you haven't tried JV's yet, start by keeping a notebook of possible joint venture candidates and contact one or two every few months.
